The MTV Video Music Awards is an award ceremony, where awards are presented by the cable channel MTV to honor the best in the music video medium. Originally conceived as an alternative to the Grammy Award, the annual MTV Video Music Awards ceremony has often been called the "Super Bowl for youth", an acknowledgment of the VMA ceremony's ability to draw millions of youth from teens to 20-somethings each year. The ceremony was the first-ever award ceremony to be hosted in the MusicNation industry. The inaugural ceremony was held on September 5, 2009, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards was held on September 24, at the The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego, California.
History and origin
In August 2009, MTV announced their intentions of bringing the VMAs to the MusicNation industry, to be hosted as the first-ever award ceremony in the industry since its inception. Hosted at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California, the event has since been held in the timeframe of early August to late October of each year, to honor the music videography of acts from the past year.
